Aylia’s Time in London

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Hey everyone!

I’ve been in London since the beginning of September, in case you didn’t know, and (also in case you didn’t know) have been keeping an … if I do say so myself … outstanding blog.

You can check it out here and read all about my incredibly fantasmagoric and awesome adventures.

“Hair” Opening

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

All semester, I’ve been working on an unreasonably stressful production of Hair which opened last night, and went fantastic. Our last rehearsal on Thursday (also in front of a smaller audience) had been awful for me because - as luck would have it - I could not make any sound at all due to an untimely and drastic case of laryngitis. But! A miraculous recovery was made in time for opening night, and people loved the show!

If you’re in the LA area, come see it!

Hallow’s Evening

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

This Hallowe’en was an eventful one on Occidental Campus, though the holiday is evidently not a big enough deal for teachers to cut us slack. I had a two hour long presentation in my Acting I class called the Zoo Project. All of us in that class studied an animal in the zoo for about a month, and were to behave as that animal for two hours in Keck Theatre while other people on campus came and watched.
Quite a feat, I must say.
That evening, also for Acting I, we all went to go see Spring Awakening, a Tony Award Winning Musical. Very good. Meeting the cast was better. :)
And then came the Hallowe’en fun! I spent the whole day dressed as Peter Pan - and that included meeting the cast in costume.

New York, New York

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

The whole family went to New York to celebrate Mom’s 37th birthday, with some absolutely amazing experiences along the way.
For my birthday several months ago, my parents were AMAZING and got me fantastic seats to see Equus, a play starring Daniel Radcliffe which has been brought to Broadway. Aside from being an absolutely mind blowing show, I got to meet Dan, and speak to him, up close and (somewhat) personal!

Fun day in Santa Monica

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Sienna and I took most of Saturday to go down to Santa Monica to see our first ever Wizard Rock concert (a genre of music dedicated solely to the awesomeness of Harry Potter) and to play around in the beach, mostly for the opportunity of a photo shoot.

Resident Advisor Training at Oxy

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Having arrived to school a week ago today, I’m still not completely settled into my room, though a trip to IKEA today helped advance that process - even if I have to go again tomorrow. As an RA this year, I’ve been busy with training about 18/7, unable to completely unpack, and stranded without internet until very recently. Training has finally ended, and the first year students have moved in. Watching them all come in, excited/nervous/clueless with their parents who have a somewhat more obvious combination of these emotions, is very nostalgic. Reminds me of that time not too long ago when I had no idea what was in store, with Mom and Dad helping me adjust.

Tomorrow is my first night “patrolling”, and I hope everything goes well.

I’m looking forward to things finally settling down again, and for all my old friends to move back on campus (the most important one of whom is coming tomorrow!).

Aylia’s First Show at Oxy

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

I recently finished my very first Occidental performance last weekend. It was a student written show called Powerhouse, and I was one of five cast members, along with a sophomore, two seniors, and one alumni. It was one of the most wonderful experiences I’ve had; not only was I working with serious actors, but also professional directors.

Super Villain Party at Oxy

Monday, January 28th, 2008

I went to my first Oxy dance last night! It was a Superhero/Villain theme, and while people were supposed to dress up, nobody’s costume was as awesome as mine and my friend, Sienna’s: Poison Ivy, the Lady Villain from the Batman comics portrayed by Uma Thurman in Batman and Robin. We braved torrential downfalls of frigid rain, but we still looked fantastic. ;) PoisonIvy
I have to admit, we did not look the same after the party.

Pictures from Yosemite

Friday, October 5th, 2007

I just (and by just, I mean a few weeks ago) got back from a field trip to Yosemite. I took a lot of pictures, which can all be found here.
The immediate pictures are uncategorized, and the subalbums are more specific pictures. It was absolutely incredible. We spend one night camping in Yosemite, and it was really cold, but still, some of those sites are absolutely breathtaking. It’s a shame you can’t really get the same experience from pictures as being there.

Aylia’s Dorm Room

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

So it’s taking a while, but slowly but surely, I’m getting settled into my new room. Just to give people a short preview of my “pad”, I thought I would post a few pictures on the family blog.
My bed
This is a picture of my “corner”. My bed and my Harry Potter posters and my stuffed animals in attempt to give myself a little taste of home.
Mini kitchen
Behold… a college kid’s kitchen! Not much food, but it feels like we just went grocery shopping…
